Gustave's parents had 15 children. Charles Gaden, French by declaration in 1857, was one of the heads of the GADEN & KLIPSCH house founded in 1803 by his two grandfathers. Municipal councilor of Bordeaux from 1878 to 1896. Deputy mayor from 1879 to 1884. Member of the city library, vice-president of the administrative commission of the Mont de Piété, administrator of the Hospices Civils of the city of Bordeaux, president of the Albert Brandebourg asylum, work of night hospitality, member of the Chamber of Commerce of Bordeaux, advisor on foreign trade of France, president of the trade union of wine merchants of Bordeaux, vice-president of the national union of the wholesale trade of wines, spirits and liqueurs of France, member of the committee of oenology of Paris. Bibliophile and lover of prints, he was the general secretary of the Société des Bibliophiles de Guyenne. A competent researcher, he built up one of the best libraries in Bordeaux, rich in beautiful illustrated works relating to this great city and the ancient province of Guyenne. His collection of engravings was renowned as one of the most beautiful in France. This library was sold at auction from June 7 to 12, 1920 at the Athénée auction room, rue Mably. All that remains is the catalog...... A solid gold model (work of the sculptor Chapu) was offered by the city of Bordeaux to Charles Gaden on the occasion of his 25 years (December 1909) as vice-president of the Mont de Piété of Bordeaux. Charles Gaden was a knight of the Legion of Honor and an Officer of the Nichan Ifnikar. (Document kept at the Historical Center of the National Archives in Paris: reference L1050050). The GADEN & KLIPSCH house, whose offices were 55 quai des Chartrons, then formed part of the Bordeaux Wine Consortium, formed by J. Steg & Cie, trading mainly in France, and GADEN & KLIPSCH trading in Germany where they were very well known, as well as 'one or two other houses. With the rise of Nazism, business with Germany declined significantly; GADEN & KLIPSCH had to be put up for public sale by the court and purchased by Mälher out of friendship for Claude Gaden who was the last director in 1932 or 1933.
