After attending school in Lübeck, Behn received his artistic training from 1898 to 1900 at the Art Academy in Munich. From 1907 to 1909, Behn made formative trips to Africa and South America, which he later repeated. There, he conducted anatomical drawing studies of large game and made plaster casts of hunted game. In the winter of 1911/12, he went to Paris for an extended study visit and visited the renowned French sculptor Auguste Rodin. In 1914, he volunteered for military service on the Western Front. From the beginning of the war, he espoused distinctly nationalist and anti-democratic positions. He continued this with corresponding publications after the founding of the democratic republic. Behn's political stance also found expression in his artistic work, for example in numerous monuments of military commemorative politics and culture ("war memorials") and in the Bremen Colonial Memorial. By the early 1920s, Behn had turned to right-wing extremism. He was a co-founder of the Bavarian Order Block, an "alliance of anti-republican organizations." He had joined the Nazi Party in its early days. In 1927, he became a contributor to the visual arts section of the "Völkischer Beobachter." He later served for a time as editor of the journal "Kulturdienst der NS-Kulturgemeinde." Behn was on the "Gottbegnadeten" list of the regime's most important visual artists. After the end of National Socialism, he worked as a freelance artist in Ehrwald, Tyrol, and from 1951 onwards, he returned to Munich. He now produced, among other things, portraits and medallions. https://www.karl-may-wiki.de/index.php/Fritz_Behn Quellen Person: Friedrich BEHN - Geneanet > Contacts > Contact Page : Henry GADEN (henrygaden) - TCGB_S3795 "
